Mako Robotic Knee & Hip Replacement in Mumbai
When knee or hip arthritis makes every step painful and other treatments no longer help, joint replacement can give you back your mobility. With robotic-assisted knee and hip replacement, Dr. Mohsin Merchant plans the surgery for your joint in detail, and the Mako robotic arm helps carry out that plan with high precision. Surgeries are performed at Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central, and rehab after surgery is done in-house at Pain Cure Ortho & Rehab Clinic, Mazgaon.
What is robotic joint replacement?
In robotic-assisted surgery, the surgeon performs the operation, and the robotic arm acts as a precise guide. Before or during surgery, a detailed plan of your joint is made. The robotic arm then helps the surgeon make bone cuts and place the implant within the boundaries of that plan. The robot does not operate on its own.
About the Mako robotic system
Dr. Mohsin Merchant uses the Mako robotic system. Before surgery, a CT scan of your knee or hip is used to create a 3D model of your joint. Using this model, the surgeon plans the implant size, position and alignment for your anatomy. During surgery, the Mako robotic arm guides the surgeon to follow this plan, helping keep bone cuts within the planned boundaries.
Robotic procedures available

| Robotic partial knee replacement | Only the damaged part of the knee is replaced | Arthritis limited to one part of the knee |
| Robotic hip replacement | The damaged ball and socket of the hip are replaced | Advanced hip arthritis and some other hip conditions |
