Knee Pain Treatment in Mazgaon, Mumbai
Knee pain can make simple things hard: climbing stairs, getting up from the floor, walking to the market or standing for long hours at work. At Pain Cure Ortho & Rehab Clinic in Mazgaon, we assess the cause of your knee pain first and then recommend the right treatment. Non-surgical care is always considered first. When surgery is truly needed, robotic knee replacement, partial knee replacement and in-house rehabilitation are available, all guided by the same team.

- Reduced bending or straightening of the knee
What causes knee pain?
Knee pain has many causes, and the treatment depends on the cause. The most common ones we see are:
- Age-related wear of the cartilage (osteoarthritis), which often affects one side of the knee more than the other
- Weak thigh and hip muscles, which put extra load on the knee
- Body weight, which increases the pressure on the knee with every step
- Old injuries to ligaments or the meniscus (the knee's cushion)
- Long hours of standing, squatting or climbing stairs at work or at home
When should you see an orthopaedic doctor for knee pain?
Book a consultation if:
- Knee pain lasts more than 2–3 weeks or keeps coming back
- The knee is swollen, warm or looks different from the other knee
- The knee locks, catches or gives way while walking
- You cannot fully bend or straighten the knee
- Pain wakes you up at night or stops your daily work
- The pain started after a fall or injury
Knee pain treatment at Pain Cure Ortho
Every patient gets a detailed clinical assessment before any treatment is advised. Based on the findings, we recommend non-surgical care, surgery, or a combination of both.
Non-surgical treatment (first line)
Most patients with knee pain improve without surgery. Non-surgical options at the clinic include:
- ERP / ozone therapy – used to manage pain and support the joint
- IR lamp therapy – heat therapy to ease pain and stiffness
- Physiotherapy – exercises to strengthen the thigh and hip muscles, improve knee bending and reduce load on the joint. Physiotherapy is done in-house at our Physiotherapy centre.
- Advice on daily habits – safe ways to sit, climb stairs and stay active
Surgical treatment: partial (unicondylar) knee replacement
When wear is limited to one part of the knee and non-surgical care is no longer enough, a unicondylar knee replacement may be advised. In this surgery, only the damaged part of the knee is replaced, and the healthy parts are kept. Your doctor will explain whether you are a suitable candidate after the assessment.
Robotic knee replacement
For patients who need a partial or total knee replacement, robotic-assisted knee replacement is available. Dr. Mohsin Merchant uses the Mako robotic system at Wockhardt Hospital, Mumbai Central. The surgery is planned in detail for your knee, and the robotic arm helps the surgeon make precise bone cuts and place the implant in the planned position. The surgeon controls every step. Read more on our Robotic Knee & Hip Replacement page.
Rehabilitation after knee surgery
Recovery does not end with surgery. Our in-house Post-Operative Rehab programme helps you get back knee movement, strength and walking confidence step by step, with regular follow-up from the same team.

Frequently asked questions
Can knee pain be treated without surgery?
Yes. Many knee problems improve with physiotherapy, therapies like ozone and IR lamp, and changes in daily habits. Surgery is considered only when non-surgical care is not enough.
What is a partial knee replacement?
In a partial (unicondylar) knee replacement, only the worn-out part of the knee is replaced. The healthy parts of the knee are kept. It is suitable for selected patients after a proper assessment.
What is robotic knee replacement?
It is a knee replacement in which the surgeon uses a robotic arm to help plan and carry out bone cuts and implant placement with high precision. The surgeon performs and controls the operation. Your doctor will tell you if it suits your knee.
How long does recovery take after knee surgery?
Recovery time is different for every patient. It depends on age, fitness and the type of surgery. Your doctor and physiotherapist will give you a clear plan and timeline after surgery.
Do I need an X-ray or MRI before the consultation?
Bring any reports or scans you already have. If new tests are needed, the doctor will advise you during the visit.
Do you provide physiotherapy for knee pain?
Yes. Physiotherapy is available in-house, so your treatment and exercises are planned and monitored by the same team.
